Some questions about the patterns in Sonuscore Orchestra.

I have one big question about the orchestra. Are all the arps the chugga chugga sort? Are there any more romantic sounding patterns, or maybe strauss waltz type patterns? Any patterns that use sustained notes? I really like the concept, but everything I hear online using any of the arps is all chuggachugga wump wump sounds, for lack of better terminology. I understand the arps are for rhythm, but rhythm can be subtle and smooth too. I could imagine a nice soft arp that would sound kind of like Air on the G string for example. I guess I want a little more classical feel to the patterns and not so much film/game sound. Maybe the demos I'm hearing just aren't showcasing that very well?

Yeah, thanks everyone. Very insightful. Guess I'll leave now.

LOL!

#1 - Everything has to be Big Bang Boom Hollywood in your face. It's just the rules here.
#2 - You can do a subtle waltz but it has to be in 4/4 and go Big Bang Boom
#3 - Make sure you have at least 25 string libraries in your palette. Another rule.
#4 - If the first song on your reel doesn't sound close to "He's a Pirate" you're out of the club.
#5 - Taikos have to "go up to 11" all the time. Even in the love scene. Actually especially in the love scene.

Glad I could help. :)

There are other patterns and you can program your own waltz or polka pattern fairly easily. I haven’t found that oompahs and oompahpahs sound especially good, though I haven’t spent a lot of time trying to tweak them.

I think what you're asking is in phrase libraries not something like the Orchestra it's designed with rhythmic patterns as its focus, check out Sonokinetic stuff or the Spitrfire Evolutions for that sustained sound

You set the number of steps and there are triplet options for the arpeggiated slots. You can dictate which notes of a chord should be used and how. You can control dynamics by modwheel. If the type of pattern you’re looking for isn’t in the presets you can make your own. There is the option to share patterns that others have made if someone has what you’re looking for though I’ve not seen anyone offering third party presets. You can do sustains. And there are two sustain envelopes in the engine that can control dynamics. So you could load instrument sustain patches into all of the 5 slots and send them to your choice of those envelopes as you see fit.

I’ve not had it for long but I’m thinking of using it more as a base with other tracks used for melodic lines if that’s what you’re getting at. Not that you can’t do that mind. And using multiple instances would open up further possibilities.

If you have a Best Service account you can try it out though that’s not the best experience (well it wasn’t for me) due to having to stream everything over internet.

Do you have to use tools to draw the envelopes, or can you make automated envelopes using the mod wheel? I'm a blind musician, so drawing envelopes isnt going to be possible, but if I can use controller data from mod wheel or some other CC message, then I could do it with hardware maybe?

I just had a try. As far as I can see the automated envelopes can only be drawn by dragging your mouse across the envelope box. As you draw each individual step, a tiny text item appears showing the step number and velocity being input. I don't know if that would be picked-up by an onscreen reader. The modwheel only seems to adjust the amplitude of the finished envelope. I checked the list of parameters in Kontakt and I couldn't find a way to input an envelope with a controller. I also tried it by playing notes on a keyboard, or using the QWERTY keyboard but neither method worked.
