What's new

8dio is actually having a sale!

What do you think the best sale might be on the Freya/Wotan bundle? Seems to be the most cutting edge legato programming out there on an adult choir....but $550 U.S. ? ...thats a bit of cash.

As for Insolidious or Silka? Should be a sale one day soon.

I have no idea, but it needs to beat my EDU discount. I may remember wrong, but I think that once they had a sale where bundles were 30% off. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy to pay for quality, but I am a patient man... :D

After a few hours with Lacrimosa and Requiem Pro, I’m very pleased. In brief:

Lacrimosa just sings. Pick any articulation/patch and just play. It’s gorgeous sounding and plays pretty much as I’d expect. It’s not quite as flexible as Insolidus, which I have, but what it does it does well. One of Troels’ videos shows an interesting technique of adding the multi-vowels articulations to a sustain patch to make the sustains sound a bit more interesting. It’s very effective and so simple I should have figured it out on my own. The legato patches provide two legato types switched key velocity. Both are convincing. I will be using Lacrimosa, no doubt.

Requiem Pro is a bit dated from a programming perspective but sounds clear, upfront and plays well. The solo singers are imo the highlight of the library, at least in view of the other choir libraries I have. I’m not sure how much use I’ll get of Requiem Pro. It's sounds excellent but the programming/GUI is dated (imo).

Downloading Lacrimosa. I didn't go for Requiem Pro, because I already own Requiem Light, and the GUI for it is at version 3.0.

How do you find Lacrimosa? Great ? I'm actually quite interested with it, especially at the current pricing point but i'm always wary of 8dio products based on my past experiences, especially the Adagio series.

200 choir singers....wonder how would that mix in less epic writing. would the choir still sound big even at softer dynamic?

Still downloading. I have a slow connection. I will probably use it at softer dynamic myself.

I have Requiem Pro. The sound is very good, but in my humble opinion, it's not worth it, unless you need the ahs, ohs and mms.
Right now the price for both is very good anyway, so you may want the full pack.
I just got tired of trying to make that chorus sing something intelligible, and I mean words. I spent hours just to get a sentence properly singed, so I can't use it for my original purposes. But sometimes that's the sound you are looking for, so... Up to you to decide if you need/want it.

A word of warning:

As Lacrimosa is the first 8DIO product I’ve purchased I had to register on their website to make the purchase. I did, and to my disappointment they sent me a confirmation email with my password in clear text.

Any site that can send you your password in clear text is not secure. This means they are not using secure storage methods (like a one-way hash) and anyone getting their hands on the 8DIO user database will be able to reverse engineer many of the passwords of 8DIOs customers.

This is not ok in 2019.

I may be misremembering, but don't they email you an autogenerated password when you register, which you can then change, meaning the password may have been sent when it was generated for insertion in the database and not by retrieving/decrypting it from the database? Or did they send you the actual password that you chose?

Indeed they send you back your own chosen passwort in cleartext o_O.
From a security point of view this is a major security flaw.
I wrote an email to their support one year ago, telling and explaining them about this.
Seems they have done nothing at all

Lacrimosa is excellent. Does softer stuff surprisingly well. I doubt many people could say "that's 200 people singing and it is too much" on those softer parts.

And although I'm no choir expert (real or VST) they do have what I consider to be an excellent legato, and for that alone, it is worth $98.

I've aways had my eye on Dominus choir from Fluffy audio because I like its softer, more emotional tones, but the price of 8Dio Lacrimosa in this sale is hard to ignore! Apart from choir size, could they get similar sounds? Can Dominus do epic like Lacrimosa? Can Lacrimosa do soft like Dominus choir? Is 200 singers too much? I want a choir that can do it all!

I'd say Dominus cannot do what Lacrimosa can in terms of top dynamics. Definitely not. And I haven't spent too much time with Dominus to be sure of this, but I think the legato may be a bit more limited (if it has it at all, memory going now!)

Lacrimosa always surprised me on the softer side. Definitely won't sound as soft as Dominus, but it does a good impression of 'softish'

Man, at $98 I'd aways consider Lacrimosa a steal.
