Favourite Solo Woodwinds

Hi all,

Just wondered what all your favourite 'up front' woodwind libraries are in 2019? Something for example that could be used for an exposed solo with piano, or to sit on top of some orchestral lush strings. I'm ideally looking for a package all-in-one kind of thing, but open to consider individual instruments. Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon ideally minimum, anything else is a bonus.

Currently in pole position are the BWW EXP B, but I also have my eye on the Embertone Herring Clarinet and a few others. (I can currently get edu discounts).

I've given up on buying my 'in the section' woodwinds for the time being... come on CSWW!

I used the flute and oboe from CineWinds Core in my latest piece, which also featured strings and piano. The winds appear at around 1:48. Close mic only with external reverb.

Chris Hein for being dry, customizable and very thorough, though complicated... Fluffy Audio winds have a really warm, soulful quality about them. Getting these two sets ended my solo WW search.

Maybe someone can share an opinion on the 8Dio Claire Solo Woodwinds. I just got an email that the bundle is down to $198 (from $688) in a 48-hour flash sale. Seems to be a popular library.

Can be great for hyper lyrical moment. Kind of temperamental in their virtuosity, but within the, fairly narrow bound go what they're best at, definitely worth picking up a couple.

So far as I know, no one has ever tried to write an ensemble piece with this. And there's probably a reason for that. (Though it might also be fun to try)

At $198 for all of them though, it's definitely worth weighing them against the OTW exp B.

Very lovely piece. Really enjoyed it.

Still VSL. They're not just my absolute go-to woodwinds library, but one of my go-to libraries period. They sound very realistic and beautiful and are just extremely reliable and fantastic to work with.

With almost any other library - any section - I always think: let's see if it works for this or that piece. I never think that about VSL Woodwinds. I know they do.

Definitely The Hein. Oh so malleable. I'm liking the Studio wws pro.more with every hour though.

Do you all refer to the full VSL woodwinds, or can you get equally good results with the SE versions?

I have the AudioModeling flute - can't speak highly enough of it. Incredibly expressive, with realtime control over multiple parameters to add a lot of realism, and no need to think about different articulations/patches - just play it, and it responds however you play. Add a breath controller, and then you can fire the flute player! ;)

Give it a couple of weeks and I believe we'll also see Infinite Woodwinds. I imagine same concept as the brass (individual instruments, single patch, control over vibrato etc). Very curious to hear these soon!

Very lovely piece. Really enjoyed it.

lovely post. I think with the latest update, their winds in general sound so much better than the early release, especially the flute. Oboe wise, i'm still not that fond with it. The vibrato just isn't clear enough
