50% OFF Heavyocity Novo, Forzo, Gravity and (almost) all their expansions via Native Instruments

One question I'm curious about is if the NOVO Essentials discount remains fixed or if it would lower during sales (e.g. BF). Had I known NOVO would go on sale I would not have bought essentials lol

Novo and IT can't really be compared other than sharing the same engine. Novo isn't really capable of creating those smooth (lush; nordic; Scandinavian; icelandic; however it's called these days) textures. And like whiskers said it's different source material.
For example there are a lot of patches in IT that include harmonics, noise and rattle (the latter two totally being absent in Novo). For the discounted price it's a good choice if you don't already own the Spitfire equivalent and you often find yourself wanting something like this.
In my opinion one benefit of IT's string designer is that it often saves a lot of time due to it's included heavily processed samples. There are patches that absolutely don't need layering another sub underneath to help evening out the soundscape - some go really low and there are enough to choose between smooth or gritty ones.

I hope I'm making sense o_O
Hmm. I have Symphonic Evolutions, Evo Grid 3, and Orchestral Swarm, oh and BDT. But I did wonder if it was the same samples until I found the articulation breakdown. The sections don't match. I'll listen to a few more walkthroughs to see it I think I need them. I really think I'm may be getting a lot of duplication in what I have.

yeah I can't find any terms with the upgrade offer, so I have no idea if the upgrade would be cheaper on black friday or not. Once i get full NOVO though, i doubt i'd use essentials.
I seem to recall that Essentials offers ensemble patches that are not available in Novo proper. If so, for textural, sound design stuff you might indeed find the Essentials patches useful.

Would be great if NI /HO had included Essentials for this promo.

OTH, Synthetic Strings @ $74.50 is of interest. Wondering if owners are pleased?

Yeah, I just don't know how versatile it is. Great for trailer/hybrid, but I'd shoot other contexts.
IMHO Forzo is more capable within a non hybrid environment than Novo is. Mainly because you can more often get away with brass being played less expressively than strings.
If they were to be your first dedicated libraries though, I'd not recommend any of them except for when you know you need all the hybrid options more than you don't.
Personally I opted for Novo/CSS + Forzo/CSB and I don't feel like I have to expand on that combo anytime soon (although I'm tempted by Caspian for the low trailer brass patches but that can be easily achieved by layering it with synths so I cannot justify the expense atm).

Here's what it means to have FORZO:
- Ok, I only do this for strings, a very simple background ...
- Ah, but I have FORZO ... now I add some pads just to support the sound ...
- Um, I almost duplicate the violas in the final part with the horns ...
- ... well, a counter melody of trombones would suit well ...
- ... but, what about horns swell, now?
- ... ok, but now at the end I need to add the trumpet swell too ...
- ... Fine, some swoosh and the trailer music is ready!

I see what you are saying. I don't hear loud horns or anything, but a nice natural pumping sound that helps the strings. Unless I am missing something.

So are you recommending FORZO over NOVO?

Well, I didn't weigh down anyway because the idea was to create something emotional, not heroic, so keep in mind that the dynamics are roughly at 50%, present but absolutely not pushed (and with some low/mid-eq, of course).
I can't make a comparison between Forzo and Novo, because it depends on what you need most, based on the type of music you produce; I can only say that as a cinematic sound, I fell in love with Forzo and crescendo/swell together with all the designed sound, they absolutely don't make me miss the legato. If I need it, I can layering with other tools.

I support this opinion.

well this helps a lot. Most of the demos i heard were that bombastic trailer brass, this one is a nice middle ground. Thanks!
