Spitfire Studio Brass Core vs Hollywood Brass Gold.

Hi gang!

I am a happy amateur, who do not make money off of music. I am using Composer Cloud which is ok, but I am now considering buying a brass library. I almost bought SSO during wish list sale, but I figured it was unreasonably fancy given my amateur status. I am now considering either Spitfire StudioBrassCore or buying Hollywood Brass Gold. I am much more comfortable with Spitfire and Kontakt (own SCS).

How do those two libraries compare as a general use library?

I think for the money, you can't go wrong with HW brass and strings. They are still on sale. Get them from the JRR Shop. Use the discount code "group" (without the quotes.)

Otherwise you have to wait until the next wishlist sale.

That seems like the rational choice. I do find Play and the way EastWest manage the various presets somewhat cumbersome, but maybe I just need to study them more.

Hollywood Brass is on sale for 50% off for NAMM...I can get either EW Brass OR Cinebrass for the same price. Which is better for cinematic scoring..not classical.

I have both (Hollywood Brass Gold and SSB core).. after purchasing the spitfire brass I was first excited of the sound - but after a few comparisions I had to realize it doesnt come close to the sound of Hollywood Brass .. HBrass just sounds a lot fatter in my opinion. Also, I have some bad and noticable repetitions with SSB

So if you already subscribe to CC, you have Hollywood Brass.

For me, too. Spitfire sounds more orchestral. I prefer Hollywood Brass, because of the sound and the playable patches with both short notes and repetitions.

Thanks! Just to clarify, you are referring to the studio brass, rather than the symphonic brass?

Depends on your style. Hollywood brass is probably going to give you a certain tone you might like or dislike but spitfire could be easier to mix with hybrid sounds.

Not to highjack this thread, but is there any love for Century Brass? I was considering SSB, but after reading many comments, not sure it's going to fit my needs.

FYI - Hollywood Brass Gold is $111 at Every Plugin.
