Anyone Know a Good Bowed Electric Guitar Library?

Hi,

I'm looking for a good, but simple bowed electric guitar library. That atmospheric swell sound. I can't find any I like. Soniccouture's Xbox doesn't sound good to me at all.

Does anyone know of a good plugin for this?

Thank you!

The Cello of Damascus which I believe is only available through the Kontakthub legacy bundle

I think ebow libraries are as close as you'll get. I don't know if anyone that's created a Bowed lib that is bowed with a violin bow

I believe those were acoustic ?
In that case, I retract my statement, and would like to nominate Cinematic Guitars by sample logic instead. Or other guitar-based libraries such as Spitfire's Enigma. Thats got some terrific "atmospheric" guitar swell sounds and pads.
But also, have you tried simply finding a guitar patch and increasing the attack time on it? It's the quick DIY approach to swells.

Yeah, if you want swells then ebow or playing with attack time (like the old "slow gear" pedal, which was basically a slow noise gate) works fine. If you want scratchiness and squealing, you'll need a real bow.

And bowed mandolin with distortion... now that's scratchy and shrill!

I have Cinematique Bowed Guitars, Soniccouture Xbow (and their previous version) and SampleLogic Cinematic Guitars - I also have eBows, old and new Gizmotrons, and a guitar bow.

I've yet to hear an eBow library that compares to actually using an eBow - not a slight against the developers who have tried, but there are just too many ways to use it. Which is not to say I don't use the libraries, but I play to their strengths.

The same applies to Gizmotron - although the eBow is way easier to use than the Gizmotron, and I do find myself turning to xBow more often lately.

And it is just me, but I find using the guitar bow to be an exercise in frustration, and the libraries do (for me) a better job.

Of the bunch I think I like xBow the best, but they are all pretty cool and more than different enough from eachother to warrant owning all three.

Have fun!!

Thanks everyone for the replies. It was just that the demos for Xbow sounded, in my opinion, quite bad.

I found that Orange Tree Samples has an ebow plugin they gave away for free at Christmas some years back. Maybe I'll try that too!

Interesting!

Not sure I'd say bad, I would say I sound nothing like that when using any of my implements of destruction. I think I mentioned that I am very comfortable with the eBow, and pretty comfortable with the Gizmotron, and not at all comfortable with a bow.

So I look at the eBow and Gizmo content as new and different sounds, something I can't or wouldn't generate myself. They can (and do) fit in nicely sometimes. Other times there is no substitute for playing the part on a real guitar.

Still waiting for something that allows me to "think" the parts in<G>
