Which Shreddage?

Ah, it's my annual Black Friday panic. I'm looking at the Shreddage guitars from Impact Soundworks, now on sale for $39. I don't have a dedicated shredding guitar in my collection, so this is great. Which one to choose, though? I'm looking at Shreddage 2 and Shreddage 2 SRP. I understand that the IBZ is a bit brighter.

I'm not necessarily looking for a lead sound, as I have other guitar libraries that may cover that. Here's what I have:
  • Orange Tree Rock Standard
  • Orange Tree Hollowbody Blues
  • Musiclab RealLPC and RealStrat (old versions)
  • Pettinhouse all guitars (which include some chugging guitars, though I haven't been able to get them to work so smoothly)
  • Waves Factory Power Guitars Free
Your thoughts?

Because the price is right, and I'm guessing I won't need the advancements of Shreddage 3, as metal is not my main thing.

Then go for it! I have S2 and quite like it. Can't compare it to anything else though. But check the store pages for SRP and IBZ, they say "Don’t own Shreddage 2? Get the STANDALONE version!". I believe those two are like extensions for S2.

I have S2 and would be interested to know if SRP or IBZ have "better" tremolo picking articulations than S2.

I love 2 myself, but I do think that 3 will be quite versatile like 2 is. It's a great buy in my opinion.

No need to wait for Shreddage 3 - it is available right now.

S3 Stratus is out, afaik S3 (same sampleset as S2, but with S3 engine) is not yet released.

I just bought S2 IBZ and I believe I have encountered a bug. @EvilDragon @zircon_st not sure which of you two I need to tag on this - I have occasional dropouts on one stereo channel of the tremolo articulation. Steps to reproduce:

-load kontakt 5 (5.8.0 in my case)
-load s2 ibz v1_25
-enable "stereo double" tracking
-hit E-1 to enable tremolo articulation keyswitch
-start playing random single note sequences till you only get a sample on one stereo channel, and the other one stays silent

I've had this happen within seconds of trying it out, but also hit longer stretches where it didn't happen, but overall this looks reproducible to me. I believe it is usually the right side guitar that keeps playing, left drops out.

How do I work around this? I've also seen dropouts for regular Shreddage 2, lowest string, tremolo articulation, guitar 1, when I alternate notes between F2 and F#2. About half of them don't play. That's maybe a better repro case to find out what's wrong because it happens much more often.

Hmmmm, I'm trying the tremolo artic in IBZ but can't seem to get the above happening.

By the way, there will be no more bugfixes on S2 since we're working pretty hard on porting all of those S2 engine guitars to S3 engine, which is already pretty well road-tested with Stratus.

Thanks for trying it out! I understand and assumed as much, which is why I was asking for a workaround rather than a fix. Can you speculate on what I could try to not have this happen?

Are you guys interested in me doing Beta testing for the in-development S3 variants of S2 and S2 IBZ? Going by the audio demos for S2/IBZ it looks like barely anyone else is really using the tremolo articulations, and I'd be focusing on those.

I think the best possible workaround would be loading two instances of Shreddage 2 into Kontakt, set one to guitar 1, the other to guitar 2, and pan them oppositely.

Feel free to contact ISW support if you want to apply for beta testing!

Srp is the latest in the S2 line.IBZ and SRP are separate instruments.
SRPhas 11 layers of palm muting.Shreddage clasic is an expansion for s2

Even though APD is getting a lot of flack around here for sending people text messages on their phones (and rightly so), I want to mention that they currently have a complete Shreddage bundle (all the versions plus classic & 2 "mystery" products) for 99$..their web site seems a little screwed up at the moment, as I don't see a "buy" button for this deal. I bought Shreddage SRP earlier today, but would have probably gone for this if my budget wasn't so low this year..

This is a good deal!

And there’s no buy button, you’re right!

Yes, I just saw the APD sale after I bought Shreddage 2. I might have bought the bundle, but I think I'm going to go for the Archtop at $39. Don't really need more than one shredding guitar. But thanks for the heads up!

Can anyone apply?

Sure, anyone can try to apply.
I tried and they said their beta team is full right now. I'm sure you'll do great work with the S3 updates either way, I just wanted to offer my help as I don't see many people using those tremolo articulations.
