Choir Library on a budget

I agree with MartinH that having keyswtich to reset phrase or even better having able to jump at any syllable using keyswitch will be awesome. I too not looking for new choir library but I'm thinking about getting whole Omega bundle :).

I have the Olympus Micro and the Boys Micro. I've used the Olympus Micro quite a lot -- it's not fancy, but if you just want to get in some oohs and aahs, it really does the trick. (This makes me think that the other Olympus choirs are probably also quite good. I'm pondering getting one of the Elements series myself.)

Others worth checking out in the low-budget/microbudget range include Strezov's Tropar and Rhodope choirs (male and female respectively, distinctive Eastern European styles), Heavyocity's Vocalise (female only, solos and small groups, gives you some processed options as well as natural voices), Embertone's Ancient Voices (male only, very limited range, but free!), and Realivox Blue (female soprano solo, but can be made to double or triple herself with pleasing results, plus a truly excellent wordbuilder). Oh, and if you have the synth Omnisphere, or Alchemy if you're a Logic user, I believe there are some nice vocal samples in both of those.

EDIT: forgot one more good freeish option -- if you ever buy something from Soniccouture, you can select an item from their list of "exclusive content," which includes their "Tape Choir" library, a recreation of a famous choir sound from the 10cc song "I'm Not In Love." Not the most naturalistic sound, by any means, but super-cool.

EDIT 2: Rhodope is apparently 300 euros. Heh. I think I must have been thinking of a sale price. Tropar is still only 59 euros, though!

Requiem Light is very good, especially since the last update. You're still better off just either getting Composer Cloud for EWSCP for 30 a month, or flat out buying the original (you won't regret it) EWSC and picking up the Platinum version when ya get more flush.

but I do want a "deterministic" result for when I render out the track or start playback from a certain point in the composition.
I definitely get what you're saying here.
Probably the best solution would be to bounce the midi to audio as quickly as you can once you have the syllable order you like. Not as simple as a keyswitch, but good to lock it in if you're going to play it over and over.
I personally don't use the phrase editor and instead use the keyswitches or X-fade (recorded into the piano roll/midi region) to toggle between syllables and get the same results each playback.

In Requiem Light Player Edition v2.5 the phrase builder
Do you still have requiem light 2.5? If so, you can access it from the Quickload or Files tab. Best of both worlds.

btw. did I miss an update after 3.0?
3.0 update is the latest. :)

And when it's an additional keyswitch that one can use but doesn't have to, I see literally no downside to having it.
This would definitely be a great thing to include again, I fully agree with you.
Since we just released this update a little over a year ago, it's not likely that we'll be coming back to it soon. I will add it to our bugs/features list for the future though. Truly appreciate the feedback.

The keyswitches to change syllables are built in already. :emoji_thumbsup:

Omega is our sweetest deal. $999 for over $8000 worth of our libraries. It's had over $1k worth added to it since I started.

Yeah, I still have it. But first I want to try again to get used to the v3 way of doing things.

I think that's what I will try to do too. And maybe I'll just use two different tracks for marcatos and staccatos.
Bouncing to audio doesn't appeal to me, as I keep messing around with midi all the time and don't like to "commit", even if it's just freezing the track.

I'm glad you found it useful and thanks again for your help! :)

By the way, while looking through my folders searching for Requiem v2.5 I re-discovered that I have Olympus Micro (v2) too, which I totally forgot about. It seems that has gotten an update to v3 too but I don't see either of the two libraries in my account on your site, to download the recent version. Is this something you can sort out if I e-mail you my purchase details to this address? [email protected]

Sure, you can send me an email at [email protected]
if you currently have the non-player version, the player version is a paid upgrade of $9.

Yes they are but not for phrase builder. What I mean is to jump to any position in your phrase with keyswitch or restart whole phrase from begininig when needed. It will be better then using keyswitch everytime for every syllable. Also if swithing from any syllable to phrase, doesn't restart phrase. So keyswith to restart the whole phrase will be nice addition.

It is for sure one of the best deal in sample world. But first I have to save some money for it. Deal is awesome but still for me 999$ are quite alot of money. But I'm sure sooner or later I will get it.

Just wanted to mention the soundiron support is super quick and helpful, so that's definitely another good argument for getting any of their libraries! Thanks @nathantboler, that e-mail answered all my questions. Keep up the great work!

That's the thing. I did check them out and the sound nice, but what I am looking for is more than ooh's and aah's. Thanks for the suggestions though!

I had Composer Cloud for a couple of moths, but ended up getting Albion One and Symphobia one on sale, which made me cancel my subscription (I have kinda regretted getting Albion One already, as I find Symphobia way more usable). I didn't really like the EW choirs, as mentioned earlier in the thread it was just way too much effort for me.

Thanks for all the replies, I have decided on Requiem Light as I got a good offer on a license transfer, and generally really dig the sound of it, and it seem to be able to fill out all my needs.

By all means though, keep the suggestions coming in case someone else stumbles upon the thread later and needs help finding a good, but cheap, choir :)

I do like RL, not bad at all imo.

You cannot go wrong with Requiem Light. The sound is very stunning. I bought it from Tonehammer.
