LASS Full Edition vs LASS Sordino Edition

Hi guys,

Here's a video showing features and the organization of the LASS Sordino library by Audiobro that's currently on sale. A comparison between the LASS Full regular edition and the LASS Sordino version is also summarized.
Thanks,

Bill

Another very timely Overview, which opened my 'closed' mind to LASS LS 2.5, as an entrypoint, versus Lite 2.
I have LADD and Full LASS has been a budget issue.

Many thanks!

These videos are great so far! Would love to hear the differences between the full sections , FC , and divisi with the sustains , staccatos and spiccatos. Video walkthroughs are almost non existent for these which haven't done Audiobro and favors . The majority of their videos are on the setup fot ART and ARC, not an actual walkthrough of the articulations for full and Lite . I'm close to getting something from the LASS series but still not sure which way to go with them , lite w/ first chair or full LASS.

Thanks, I don't have the lite version, so hard to say. I usually go for the full version which will sound better usually than the lite version although harder on system resources. But there is a big price difference for sure.

Really struggling here, as no DIVISI in Lite, and still moderate investment.
No problem easily placing LASS in upper tier of String Libraries, but aging gracefully, and cost is right there with others.
It is simply my 'personal' issue, but several decent options out there now and once I jump ….. there's no way back.

Yep. The only string libraries I want to add at this point are LASS and CSS. I get the feeling CSS will work better for trailer music and LASS better for traditional film scoring . It's a tough call . I can get LASS full with Sordinos or Lass Lite w/ first chairs and CSS at the moment . If I jump to LASS full w/ sordinos I want to be 100% sure it's for me . I'm pretty sure an update or Version is in the way for LASS too. It really is an investment as Sostenuto says.

i'm facing the same choice, thanks to William McFadden's great videos.

i have a feeling i will be going all in for LASS 2.5 Full.

I can't speak at all to LASS, as I don't have it. But CSS has a darker tone that has a very romantic quality to it, so it will work fine for classical as well as film, although it wouldn't be my first pick for classical. It has a fairly robust vibrato that adds a lot of emotion to the sound. It won't do soft and feathery sounds so well though. You would need to EQ CSS a bit to get it to have the brighter more Hollywood tone, but it can be aggressive enough without much tweaking. The shorts and legatos are excellent in CSS, although I know both the LASS shorts and legatos have a very good reputation also. From what I understand, CSS will be easier to use than LASS and easier to set up, but LASS may offer a deeper feature set.

My recommendations for those comparing:
1) Go for the overall sound of the library that you prefer. When you listen to demos, if you like the LASS sound, then go for it. Likewise CSS.
2) Don't underestimate the library's workflow / ease of use. I've bought libraries before that I still love the sound of, but just never use because I can't use them as easily as others I have.
