hi all, I'm in need of a good acoustic guitar vst for a few tracks in a song I'm producing. Lots of strumming and some lines... I own Realguitar v3, what can you advice that can sound reasonably natural? Perhaps in the 100/150 range?

Orange Tree Samples has four acoustic guitars:

  • Evolution Modern Nylon
  • Evolution Songwriter
  • Evolution Steel Strings
  • Evolution Flatpick 6

A few dollars over your price range, but worth it. I'm not the only person who strongly recommends these.

I've got a number of libraries and usually keep going to Prominy Humingbird guitar. I also use Evolution Acoustic Guitar on some occasions. I like Fingerpick for it's intended purpose but this library has limitations.

You can find lots of information via Search in threads like this one:

There are many good acoustic guitar libraries....my favourites are from Amplesound and Ilya Efimov...but in 'what's the best" threads, normally one will see every library there is is listed as someone's favourite. :) The tone and articulations vary tremendously between libraries, so I suggest it would also be beneficial to explore demos and reviews etc. as well as considering recommendations here. Good luck in your search.

I have RealGuitar...v3 as well, I think.
It has really not dated well. I've heard the newest update helps, but I still believe they are behind in 2018.
Shame, cause the strumming engine was excellent.

For strumming now, I prefer Acousticsamples Sunbird. It doesn't have the best overall tone, but the strumming engine is similar to RealGuitar (if I remember correctly).
For picking, I think there's better choices than Sunbird though.
I'm not sure if there's been an update to Orangetree samples guitars, but last I used it for strumming, it was rather cumbersome.

But their latest - Songwriter, does sound excellent though and would be my top choice for picking.

What others think these: why and why not?

In listening comparison tests on this forum and elsewhere, Ilya's guitars were consistently at or near the top along with ones from Pettinhouse and an Amplesound one.

I wish Piet ("re-peat") and Ray's demos were still accessible, but maybe have a look at this older thread as well and see what is still there from those who contributed. I think my Efimov one is still in my Dropbox account.

thanks all, in the end I went for the Amplesound Martin acoustic. Right tone for the song, and great strumming options... looks like it's a bit heavy on cpu... anyway here's a nostalgic piece from the 70s to try its arpeggio capabilities, then I'm diving into strumming techniques, more to the point of the song I'm arranging
