Logic Pro ER - Activate/ Deactivate projects manually and Tab-able Projects

It would be useful to be able to open multiple projects at a time in a more manageable way.
(It takes a long time to open multiple projects with a lot of Kontakt 5 instruments loaded)

Instead of Logics auto activate next loaded project feature the user should (optionally?) have the ability to activate the open project of choice manually.
Only one project can be activated at a time exactly like Logic does it in its current iteration.

This would also allow to open other projects to visually copy and past regions and tracks between projects.

Use Case:
  • User opens Logic Pro
  • loads a new or recent project (will be activated automatically)
  • User opens another project
  • Logics Dialog window will pop up
  • User chooses “Don’t Close” when asked
Do you want to close the current project before opening a new song?
  • Next project will open tabbed inside the main window (deactivated)
  • To activate the project user can click the activate project button which is placed above in the Control Bar
  • The LCD might also indicate the deactivated status of a project

The option to enable/disable auto activate next project could then be found under

Preferences > Audio > General

file.php

Additionally a new project should (optionally) open in a Tab inside the main "Workspace" Window if there is already a project running.

If the user has multiple windows open per project there could be an option in the Logic preferences that allows to switch focus of all additional windows per project based on "Tab focus" via the main "Workspace" Window!

Here a tab view mockup at 40" 4k

that would be awesome! did you send that to apple feedback?

i know there is the library feature but i would like to copy midi/audio and also channel strips.
i guess i could also import session data (or whatever its called)

but your way its more visually appeling to be able to see maybe a few midi parts you want to copy to a new project.

That’s why I came up with it!

Beside the project import function which is spread sheet style we need a visual approach that allows us to copy paste sections or bits and pieces between projects on a visual and intuitive level. It does work already but the user has to wait until the project is activated. Switching between multiple open projects when Kontakt 5 and demanding orchestral sample libraries are involved is slow and cumbersome and doesn’t work at all if Vienna Ensemble Pro in decoupled mode is involved.

This new feature would allow to work very quick. Say you need these string runs you’ve programmed from Project B at bar 64 and copy that into your current active Project A.

There would be no waiting time until Project B is loaded because logics Audio engine is ignoring it (preference checkbox is set to off)

So it will load in seconds. You can copy the regions that you need, jump back to your current active project and paste at your hearts content. Logic will ask if you want to create extra tracks for it or if you want to past it on the tracks that it are already there.

This approach could be appealing to VE PRO users too as the next loaded project won’t activate until you hit the button.

Loading Logic Pro projects might load as fast as using quick view in the finder. Similar to when core audio is deactivated (audio engine off)

I posted it here so users appealing to that workflow can grab it and send it as their feedback as well.

HI!

Regarding the question on this list:
  • User opens Logic Pro
  • loads a new or recent project (will be activated automatically)
  • User opens another project
  • Logics Dialog window will pop up
  • User chooses “Don’t Close” when asked
Do you want to close the current project before opening a new song?

What about, when opening a second project, simply adding a dialog box asking us if we want to open that project in 'activated' more or not? Of course - that question should in that case be asked before second project is loaded into RAM.

That would work too but if you cancel this dialog or click don’t activate you would need a GUI button and/key command/menu entry to activate a project.

I’m all for options.

wait is this real yet? or are you just proposing to apple for it? I can't find the on/off button.

But this is a fcking real good idea!

It’s a proposal. I did a couple of days ago while switching between projects I thought what change in behavior I like to see when switching between multiple open projects.
