Windows 10 Updates and DAW Problems

Is it just me or are there consistent annoying issues every time Windows 10 does an update? It seems there is always some troubleshooting I have to do after the damn updates. It isn't necessarily just my DAW (Cubase 8.5) but all things music related....for ex. I've had issues with elicenser, kontakt instruments, ilok, etc. I really hate this. I have to deal with constant software"improvements" at my day job as well with our own custom software and it sucks just the same.

if you have trouble with the updates just disable them?

i did not have any trouble with my windows machine. even with all updates installed everything works, but i also tweaked it alot.

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have Windows 10 Pro version, but the home version. I guess it would be smart to upgrade to Pro. I probably should do it.

Hi Patrick,

small updates seem to work fine here, it's the big ones that give me the heebie jeebies. Both Anniversary and Creators updates broke my gpu driver, elicenser and ilok. Nothing a reinstall wouldn't solve, but still a minor annoyance. They also reset some of my privacy setting, so I had to double check each one. Spybot Anti-Beacon is a nice telemetry blocker, in case you are interested.

Knock on wood, So far I have had no problems with the Creators update or weekly updates with any of my DAW's. I also have Windows 10 home edition on a Intel 64 bit PC. I don't have Cubase, but I have Cakewalk Sonar Pro and Studio one 3 Pro. All seems to work fine with both of them. Just thought I would pass my info along. Also lucky for me I did the creators update before the DAW installs.

I've also always had issues and always need to uninstall the updates. The last update I have installed is from 2016 and I believe it was because I needed to install it to update Netflix for it to work. All I did was disable the update service. I think you can do it on the home version as well.

Reaper V5.40 (64) here and no issues. Been on Win10 Pro Insiders Preview since it started ... and just made commitment to live with periodic hassles, in order to avoid falling way behind. I feel MS is hard at it to keep worldwide Users current with very diverse technology advances. Gotta choose which path and enjoy ;)

Preview v 16232 just a day ago and nothing untoward so far .....

I have had these problems too. A Win update last year created a huge problem as I suddenly couldn't render audio without artifacts and I was in the middle of an important project. You can turn off updates but that can also be a problem as time goes on. I actually had to get with East West and install an earlier version of Play to resolve the issue. Go figure.

Every time there's an Win update now I hold my breath. Last one made it impossible to double click on a folder to open it on my drive. Now I have to right click it and go to 'open'. Pff.

I hear ya, I think we all hold our breaths when it comes to Microsoft udpates. I still don't have the creators update on my Windows 10 laptop, but don't have any runnable music programs on it.

I was changing my output settings in Kontakt, which for some reason changed after my latest Windows update last night, when my computer restarted and I got the black screen that just hangs on start up. I had the same thing happen after my last update. After selecting "repair" after several times of powering the pc down and back up again, my computer finally booted up ok. Crossing my fingers I will have no other issues.
