    Recommend £250 Budget

I have too many orchestral libraries. Latest ones I bought are BBC Core and the updated SSO. Both are really good value for the money. BBC Core has nice strings and woodwinds. Brass and percussion are not on the same level in my opinion. To me it feels that there is less dynamic layers recorded...

    VSL Synchron Prime

Yeah. I can see what is included in the sense of section sizes and articulations but it is a bit unclear if there is a difference in the dynamics and RR or are these the same as in the Standard version of the patches.
  3. Hanu_H

    VSL Synchron Prime

Hey guys! What is the difference between Synchron Prime and the Standard Synchron libraries? I know there is fewer articulations available and less microphones but does Prime have all the dynamic layers and RR's for the included articulations? I am really liking how the Synchron brass and...

    Dark Athmospheric Orchestra library recommendation

I don't really get what you are after. I hear mostly basic orchestral instruments, it's more about composition and the arrangement. There is some epic percussion and maybe some synths to beef up the low end, but other than that, any orchestral library can do this.
  5. Hanu_H

NEW | Parker Oboe by Musical Sampling

I have Adventure Strings, Adventure Brass and Soaring Strings. All of them are really great libraries. When they have all the basic woodwinds done, I am most definitely gonna buy all of them.
  6. Hanu_H

Complementing SSO with a more "epic" library

Metropolis ARK 1 has a really nice choir and epic brass. Rest of the sections don't get a lot of use from me. Never really got used to this high and low thing on strings and I can get a lot more "epic" sound out of LASS and Adventure Strings layered. I think you have everything covered with...

    Spitfire Symphony Orchestra

Normally most of the updates are only scripting updates using the same sample pool. If there is a big update in the samples(new recordings, denoising, etc), you can download the new samples and keep the old instrument with the old samples. I have 3 different versions of CineBrass as an example...

    Functions of Soaring Strings

How I see it, it's the legato part of the Adventure Strings. It sounds amazing on big, soaring melodies but it can't handle fast runs. But I don't think Adventure Strings handles runs well either. It can do some nice spiccato runs but as it doesn't have legato, I rarely use it for runs. Only if...

    Spitfire Symphony Orchestra

I think at some point developers had to pay extra if they added a lot of new sample material to a Kontakt Player instrument, that's why some libraries are divided in the core and pro even if it would be easier to have them in one library. But I might be wrong with this.
  10. Hanu_H

    Spitfire Symphony Orchestra

Because it's a Kontakt Player library, I really doubt there will be more microphones added.
  11. Hanu_H

    Spitfire Symphony Orchestra

I am guessing there is some functions in K7 that are used in the new performance legato patches that are not available in K6.

Sample modeling Horn and Tuba - thoughts?

I think it's all about what you like. Not on my computer at the moment but all I've done to SM horns on my template was some EQ, short room reverb from B2 with a 100% mix and tail from EW Spaces. If I remember correctly, I copied the B2 settings from one of the videos by Blakus. Mattia Chiappa...
  13. Hanu_H

Sample modeling Horn and Tuba - thoughts?

I have all of them. For orchestral music, the horns are absolutely the best instrument from Sample Modelling brass. I think all of them work pretty well, but the horns are just on another level.
  14. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

Yeah. I agree that modelled stuff is not there yet. It has it uses but there is no perfect solution for this yet. I said in the other discussion that traditional sampling is already at it's peak. I am pretty sure that normal listener won't hear any difference between SSO and AR for example, it's...
  15. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

All of them sound good but they have different problems. In another thread I was talking about the limitations of the sampling technology and this clearly shows it. When you record something in a certain way, it makes some parts sound better and some parts not as good. That is the nature of...

    Opinions on EastWest's Symphonic Orchestra?

I also started out with EWQLSO back in the day. Percussion is still good and some other patches as well. But as a starter library I think it's really confusing and needs a lot of knowledge to get best out of it. There is a lot of different patches that you need to know how to use and it's...

New SSO vs. Berlin Series (BS/ BSS)

With traditional way of sampling I mean all the sample libraries that are not using modelling or other different techniques. What I ment with my post was that this way of making instruments always faces the same difficulties. Of course it makes a difference if you have more dynamic layers...
  18. Hanu_H

New SSO vs. Berlin Series (BS/ BSS)

Sure. There is still a lot of new exciting libraries coming. But what I am seeing is that libraries are more focusing on doing one thing better than anything else and not trying to do everything better. Because that is just impossible. It's a numbers game after all. Making a sample library is a...
  19. Hanu_H

New SSO vs. Berlin Series (BS/ BSS)

I think the traditional way of sampling things is already at it's peak. You can always have something more but it doesn't make the instrument absolutely better. Sample library will always be a collection of samples stiched together. I have heard some amazing compositions done with the older...
  20. Hanu_H

New SSO vs. Berlin Series (BS/ BSS)

You don't need it. You already have everything covered. Only reason for it would be building a template around the sound of Air. If you want that different flavour then go for it. But it will not add anything to you existing template.
  21. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

These are super helpful. Can you tell me what you think about it? What are your favorite things in the library and what you don't like in it?
  22. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

Sounds really good! Did you balance the instruments at all or is that out of the box as well?
  23. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

I don't think like that at all. I just want to hear more user demos.
  24. Hanu_H

Full library vs hybrid library uses for orchestral writing

Before we got all of these great orchestras recorded in the same space, I think everyone had kind of a hybrid template. Now I think, it's better to have a one orchestra recorded in the same space and layer + add instruments from other libraries. To my ears it gives more coherent end results. You...

  26. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

I have heard some, but it's pretty difficult to find them when there is so many posts. I also haven't heard a lot of complete compositions. It's of course still a fresh update and people might not have done a lot with it yet.
  27. Hanu_H

New Spitfire Symphony Orchestra user demos

Hey guys, I would like to hear some user demos of the updated SSO. Finished pieces or just simple noodlings. Also all the feedback about the update would be appreciated. I am trying to make my mind if I want it or not.
  28. Hanu_H

When playing the notes just isn't enough

It would be helpful to know what libraries you are using. If you are using a set of samples that are all recorded in the same space, you don't have to do as much mixing as with compining different libraries. I usually start with high pass and low pass filter to get rid of all the unnecessary...

    Spitfire Symphony Re-Issue vs. BBCSO

With the SSO intro price I am also been thinking about buying it but I am a bit afraid that it might have similar problems. What I've heard that Spitfire don't care a lot of the brassiness in brass. But with the update people have been happier with the dynamics in legato patches and what I've...
  30. Hanu_H

    Spitfire Symphony Re-Issue vs. BBCSO

I got BBC Core from the sale about 2 weeks ago. After using it in a few compositions it really feels lacking in the dynamic range with brass, woodwinds and some of the percussion. Strings sound great and with the legato patch is really easy to get good results. Brass for me is almost unusable...
  31. Hanu_H

    Spitfire Symphony Orchestra

Seems like an amazing deal for sure! I am guessing that owning the Orchestral Grand Piano doesn't give me any discount as my price is 440€. There is a lot of different articulations for strings. Do you guys think there is actually a need for all the different shorts, marcato, etc, with the new...
  32. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

Yeah. That's what I was doing after hearing the legatos. Cuivre sounds pretty brassy. Shorts could use one louder dynamic layer as well. It is a weird decision to have the solo brass more forte than sections.
  33. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

I did buy the BBC Core already. I made a template out of it and have been testing it with some small compositions. I like the strings, higher solo woodwinds and melodic percussion. Brass is the weak link in it for sure. It sounds that the solo horn and solo trumpet legatos only have one dynamic...
  34. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

That would have been another option for sure. And I was going to do that but I guess the Spitfire sale just broke my back.
  35. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

I will most probably get Cinematic Studio Series later on, really like how it sounds. Only thing that has kept me from buying it is the fact that I already have so many great libraries that it's not about the libraries but the skill that is holding me back. And for the purpose of studying I...
  36. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

I actually started with EWSO and used it for years. But I just can't handle all the millions of patches in their libraries and Play is not to my liking. I am sure it's good value for the money.
  37. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

I went for it. For the price it's just too good to miss out. From listening the demos and videos, only thing that I am not super thrilled is the upper dynamics of the brass. But I can maybe add some CineBrass or something else if I need it to be more powerful.
  38. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

I haven't made up my mind yet and of course Spitfire starts a sale. BBC Core would be 291€, which is really cheap for a full orchestra. Few questions about it. How much can you customize the keyswitches in Spitfire Player? Can I unload the articulations that I don't use and can I change order of...

    Strings library to complement CSS

I remember when I bought LASS(it was on DVD), it was magic and it still is. I have LASS 3 as well but I am mostly using 2.5 with ARC. I don't use any of the colors, I do all the mixing in the DAW and it's really most versatile library I have heard. Sounds excellent alone and shines when you...
  40. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

What do you mean with lot's of preparation? I think CSS looks like it's is pretty straightforward in the patches and setting up. If I need to do some mixing, it's not a big deal, but of course would prefer if the sound would be great from the start. I am after more natural sound than over the...
  41. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

Yeah. That was my first impression as well when I started thinking about this. Of course it's never gonna be so simple and there's always things I have to change/edit. Another upside is that Cinematic Studio series has all the instruments I want, only need to add the percussion.
  42. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

Thanks guys. I will of course use Dorico as well and I am already pretty happy with the included Iconica Sketch sounds. I've been using sample libraries for almost 20 years and with my main template I am a bit worried that I will focus too much on fiddling with all the different libraries...
  43. Hanu_H

    BBC Core/Pro or Cinematic Studio

Hey guys, I am starting to study orchestral writing with a teacher. I would like to have strings, woodwinds and brass that I can just...

    Your favorite sketching patch/library?

Hey guys! I am looking for a new patch for sketching. I have been using Project Sam's OE1 Full Orchestra for it and it sounds great but it only does short notes. I would like to have something similar but with an option to do long notes as well. It doesn't have to have staccato and sustain...

    Great choir with latin wordbuilder?

I think that ultimately the best way to do a choir that sings what ever you want, is to use HC wordbuilder with some real singers on top. Even your own singing mixed in there can make a huge difference in realism. But of course you have to know how to stay in tune and do it multiple times.

Experience selling/transferring EW and Audio Imperia licenses?

Yeah. There's a lot of people that would like to sell some of their libraries but it's not possible. Only a few developers allow resales. EW is really against it and I know a few guys who own some of their libraries more than once, thanks to bundles.

How many reverbs does a full scale MIDI orchestra have? By my count its 92.

That is true, it's more closer to 35 if you are not using solo instruments. I think that the room build up is one of the biggest problems with libraries that are recorded with a huge ambiance. You have the same information so many times, when in real life you would only get it once.
