Finally had the chance to take this puppy for a spin today and wow, the new patches sound awesome! And there's surely more than enough content for one lifetime. One small thing: some of the legato patches (e.g. Heroic True Legato) seem trigger legato transitions if a key outside of playable...

Yeah, I got that, but people were giving you feedback like it were a mockup. (Soon someone will chime in to tell that you should have used a string library with true legato.) Regarding the remaster, it sounds a bit too bright to my ears. And messing with already mastered audio might not be the...

    Huge Template WITHOUT VEP?

I have never understood the "choice paralysis" argument against templates. If you have 20 string libraries, then you have to choose one from 20 string libraries no matter if they are already setup in a template or if you have to start from scratch. The issue would be the 20 string libraries -...

    More EW Spaces questions

It’s not about timbre but position; the harp is usually placed behind the 1st violins and the tuba behind the basses, so they are on the same “depth layer” but on opposite sides. Mind you, I have never used this impulse for the tuba, only for the harp. Having separate reverbs for different...

I don't think another Kontakt library was ever in the cards as OT hasn't released one in over two years (since TIME micro?). Yes, got reply from Tobias and I already tested the update. As much as I don't like SINE, I have to admit that for releasing small updates it beats Kontakt hands down. And now Ark 4 is the first SINE library I have that is actually better than the Kontakt version.

Orchestral Tools "End of an Era" speculation thread

I just had SINE running so it was easy to check: Ark 1 hi strings spiccattos unisons (5 RR's) and octaves (6 RR's) behave like I stated above with 2, 3, 4 and 5 note chords (and playing chords of different roots). The RR indicator moves forward one slice per chord. It's also interesting that...

Orchestral Tools "End of an Era" speculation thread

Regarding the Ark 4 choir shorts, I spent the better part of this morning testing this out, and... The whole SINE Ark 4 works like the choir shorts do - playing a three note chord assigns a different RR for each note. Basically if you are repeating a three note chord with a patch with 6 RR's...

Orchestral Tools "End of an Era" speculation thread

The bundle price for owners of 1-4 seems like a no-brainer but I'm not sure what to think of the Ark 5. Seems like instead of innovating they have just scraped ideas from the bottom of the barrel for this one.

How is the legato in Ark 4 on SINE?!

Just tested the SINE port of MA4 and they haven't fixed the choir shorts. Playing a three note chord plays three different syllables at the same time and the RR "pie chart" just jumps three RR's forward. Makes me wanna cry and laugh at the same time.

How is the legato in Ark 4 on SINE?!

The settings page of choir shorts don't have the "Poly Syllable" switch like Ark 1 & 2, but "Polyphonic RR" like other non-choir instruments. Basically this leads to different syllable being triggered for each note in chord, which sounds super messy. I logged this in over two years ago, and...

Orchestral Tools: Berlin Series on SINE now!

I fought with SINE Niente in another thread and noticed that CC1 needs to go down all the way to 0 in order to get niente, while in Kontakt the threshold is slightly higher. At least my modwheel (Novation Impulse) won't go lower than 2.

Orchestral Tools: Berlin Series on SINE now!

Didn't mean to sound harsh. Entering serial numbers refer to having Kontakt purchases to appear in SINE (which obviously doesn't concern you), but I don't understand where did you get the idea that OT will start emailing some codes when the email said "assigned to your account automatically"...

Orchestral Tools: Berlin Series on SINE now!

I have the Kontakt versions of all the Berlin mains and I received an email week ago stating "Be sure to enter all your serial numbers, and Berlin Orchestra will be assigned to your account automatically from December 6." I don't know if recent buyers have gotten this email or not.
  62. B

    Sine Player Polymaps

I think that OT's idea is that you are not supposed to use polymaps and keyswitches in the same patch, which is a silly limitation IMO. At least choosing the poly mode should then disable the keyswitches.
  63. B

    Sine Player Polymaps

I was writing a long reply but jbuhler was quicker. Just one thing: wouldn't it make more sense to use modwheel (or the default CC20) for polymap with just shorts as velocity is already controlling the dynamics?
  64. B

What happened to QL Forbidden planet?

I got the email as well and my initial reaction was “this must be a joke”. Maybe they needed Opus (which kind of is Play Pro) to realise the full potential of this? The market for “hybrid synth” libraries is maybe a slightly different today compared to 2009 though.

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

Now I'm trying SINE in Cubase and drawing CC1 with mouse. At CC1=1 I still get around -70dB of signal, at CC1=10 it's around -40dB (Violins I sus, just one note). Maybe that's enough testing for this evening. Thanks for the help!
  67. B

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

OK, I think I solved the problem. The modweel curve seems to be slightly different in SINE (more dynamic). In Kontakt CC1=2 is enough for niente, while in SINE you really need to go to zero. And it seems my keyboard modwheel doesn't go lower than 2 :P
  68. B

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

Intresting. With Soft low layer disabled, Niente does absolutely nothing for me in Violins I or Cellos sustain patches. With Soft low layer enabled as well, however, the volume does go much lower with modwheel completely down, but not to niente. I still get something like -45dB signal (~-30dB...

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

Which library are you referring to? Like I said in my above post, niente works in SINE Ark 2 choirs excactly like in Kontakt, but the dozen or so patches I tried in BS, BB & BWW, the niente switch does absolutely nothing (works fine in Kontakt).
  70. B

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

I don't know which one is worse - to let such an obvious bug slip through or have the feature work like this by design? And regarding Niente - I downloaded Ark 2 Choirs to test it out and Niente is working there just fine, so that problem seems only to concern Berlin Series.
  71. B

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

This turned into bit of a dialogue :) I understand what you mean but if you now play any other articulation (eg. Col legno) the purged articulation will be immediately reloaded into RAM again. I'm testing this right now with BS Violins I Longs and Shorts by purging every other articulation...

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

But if I play any other articulation in that patch the purged articulation will re-load anyway? If one (musical) key press loads all the articulations shouldn't the purge happen on patch-level as well. If I want to purge the whole Berlin Strings this now requires 2 x ~150 mouse clicks. I can...

I guess that's true, but why would I want to purge a single articulation in first place?
  74. B

New to Sine - features missing, or am I going at it all wrong?

The documentation suggests that the purge "is useful to save RAM for less-played articulations" but every articulation is re-loaded if any articulation is played. I understand it is not supposed to work on a single note level like Kontakt, but what is the point of the current implementation? I...

Guitar recording level and gain staging

Naah, -9 dB is perfectly fine. If your meter hovers around -18 db to -12 db and your peaks are around -12 db to -6 db, you're good to go. If you have active pickups they usually have less dynamics and peaks rarely get out of hand anyway.
  83. B

Guitar recording level and gain staging

The -12 to -18 mentioned is a good range (peaks at -18 is unnecessarily low) and you should hit the first stage of your chain with this level, meaning your Apogee. Technically if all your faders and gain knobs in Logic are set to +0 (unity gain) you should have the same levels in every meter.

Cubase 11 Pro fade editing etc.

Interesting, I have never used this setting. The fade-in/out scrolling seem to respond to quantization, though it is probably not very intuitive to set quantization to 128th every time you want to set a fade-in.
  86. B

Cubase 11 Pro fade editing etc.

I still can't make this happen, are you on Windows or Mac? As for the handle resolution, it totally depends on the zoom level (and your mouse speed).
  87. B

Cubase 11 Pro fade editing etc.

Maybe I'm missing something but shift + scroll wheel works as horizontal scroll in Cubase? Is there a reason not to just use the fade handles? In general the handles are always free moving and not tied to quantization.
