All my tracks are not 'mono-compatible'?

Dont stress too much about it. The only real thing I would ever stress about in mono, today, is how your bass response is: does it vanish when summed together or not? If so, you have polarity or phasing issues which should probably be cleaned up anyways, but you still may not want to fiddle with...

Reaper: Kontakt Loads Slow 20-30sec with GUI enabled, Win10 only.

Hi everyone. I have been pulling my hair out over a recent problem. Kontakt (5, 6, 7 and their associated VST2 and 3 dlls) is taking 20-30sec to load within the FX chain window if I have the UI enabled; however, this is only happening on windows 10 and only within Reaper. It loads fine on the...

VE Pro -- how many instances is too many?

Stereo within VEP into the DAW. Buss accordingly in the DAW depending on what you need. This makes it way easier to trouble shoot, and it also makes it a little more flexible as projects have varying deliverable requirements, which can be easily accommodated with project specific templates etc.

VE Pro -- how many instances is too many?

Apologies, this is another wall of text that I was not expecting to type. In my opinion, these are two different things. If you are crashing VEP while working, that's a problem with the template and whatever else may be going on. If you are restarting VEP because it has been running for days...

VE Pro -- how many instances is too many?

There is no reason you cannot run them on mac or do a single, large computer. Plenty of people are doing as you asked about all ready with, say, the Mac Studio. Some reasons you typically see everyone running windows for the VEP server are: • They are typically cheaper to build than an...

VE Pro -- how many instances is too many?

Ya, general rule of thumb is that as instance count goes up, core count assignment goes down. Without getting technical, think of it like a balancing act. Also, with better organized and curated instances, they do not necessarily need the same amount of horsepower as a behemoth one. Regarding...

VE Pro -- how many instances is too many?

Some other clarification as well: A major point that I have seen people get stuck on is "What happens if the amount of notes for a given instrument or library overloads an instance or cpu". If you have a bunch of libraries bundled together, you are more likely to hypothetically reach that...

VE Pro -- how many instances is too many?

Technically, that would be mono outputs, which is why VEP still shows for stereo tracks Output 1/2. While I have only ever used stereo coming from VEP, I have only ever addressed the returns via their mono identifier, since that's really the basis of what's going on under the hood. I'll edit...

Wall of text incoming. I'm going to chime in as this topic has caused me numerous problems and headaches over the years having built and serviced others’ setups. Do we need Soothe 2?

I wrote a post about Dseq2 and Soothe2 awhile back, if that's of any value for people looking for alternatives. Since then, I have used DSEQ3 a few times in comparison and have to say that it is, sonically, much better than DSEQ2. Soothe2 is still consumes more resources than DSEQ3, but if you...

WHY MIDI CONTROLLERS WITH 2 OR 3 FADERS ARE SO EXPENSIVE !!!

You're forgetting a decent soldering setup, ~$100-200. Trying to do something like this with a standalone soldering iron from Harbor Freight is doable, but a royal pain in the rear. As previously pointed out earlier in the thread, the tldr: hardware is a royal PITA.
  13. P

OK, RME interface. But which one?

TLDR: All of RME's product's are top of the line and built like freight trains. If audio over IP is also of interest, they have full integration for that as well. They have been, and will probably continue to be (if they keep up doing what they have been) my only recommendation for professional...

How to export stem for video games and interactive music

The problem with having a single mastering chain for any media composition, as you have it, is that a lot of that processing is dependent on the gain going into them. So, even soloing individual stems through your chain and then re-summing them will NOT sound the same as it did when all stems...

Email from Denis at 2C Audio

I'd hate to see the company go under, as I genuinely feel their plugins are great. B2 is still one of my favourite reverbs, if it wasnt so darn CPU hungry. Luckily I'm still on windows, so for the time being, I do not have to immediately find an alternative; however, if push comes to shove...

How to make this sound good?

Going with Noam's suggestion. If it is something vital, I'd also try to grab a violinist friend to play violin 1 and 2 and layer it in. That'll really glue it together. No need to do it on the lower strings.

Ark 1 Brass vs JXL Brass

Cannot speak to ARK, but for JXL, the regular positions are fantastic for a natural sound. It's one of the only libraries where I feel the mic positions actually function like I would expect them to from a raw recording. AMXL are for the instant blockbuster sound. Both are great. Overall...

MIDI notes showing up earlier than I played them??

In C12, they added the ability to trigger pre and post logical editor, so it makes it easier to chain things together. Honestly, you could just make a macro that sequentially triggers what you need in older versions. The new addition makes certain things less clunky.
  20. P

MIDI notes showing up earlier than I played them??

Maybe you could set something up in Cubase 12, as you could make a macro chain to stop recording then trigger the next macro/logical editor preset. In Cubase 11 or prior, you would need to use something like AHK or Keyboard Maestro to do this.

MIDI notes showing up earlier than I played them??

For those not versed in the logical editor. This only affects the notes, not the cc data. Could you add an additional bool, notated below. Reaper's Stability Under Load vs Cubase: Calling Reaper Power Users

Thanks for the info. This has been helpful in deciding to schedule time to port everything over to test. Yes, VEP is in use right now. In my scenario and equipment, a cubase template of ~2000-2500 takes about 30-40 seconds to load, which is not too shabby, and I barely scratch 47% under full...

Can someone clarify What exactly is "grabby compression"?

I'll be honest. I have never heard of this in relation to compressors, but it wouldnt surprise me if it is a common term. I would assume that it has to do with its ability to quickly grab transients or something related to how it triggers? Not sure.

    Using delay as early reflection?

At this point, purely using a delay to spacialize is definitely more of an old school move. There are a lot of different offerings out on the market now that can do the task better.
