“Aurora Choir” by Aria Sounds is an elegant and powerful choir sample library that features both Sopranos and Alto voices, 24 different syllables and 4 true legato modes.

This library is the ultimate culmination of many hours of work, study and tweaking. The choir has a very impressive, big natural sound which makes it perfect for all types of film and trailer music as well as classical orchestral writing!

Got my attention at $100. Next choice is Genesis at ~~ $278. Lib costs are starting to get 'spacey'

It's been on sale a few times before, and opinions seems to be mixed (as in this thread). Still interesting for the price, so I'll keep an eye out for some more opinions!

I’ll post something I shared to a Facebook thread about this product :

“Public Service Announcement: This is a definite "do-not-buy". Save up for a choir from a more reputable company, as this is really quite awful. (If anyone wants proof, I'd be happy to do a full demo/walkthru and also compare it with some other choir libs, I don't like putting down companies and products, but really, this one is just bad)”

Also, every other post on this Facebook thread were from users with similar “buyers regret”, not just stating they dislike it but urging others not to make the same mistake.

Genesis, although just children, is in another league compared to Aurora. Doesn’t even begin to be a fair comparison.

I enjoy the sound of this library only at low dynamics. There are many inconsistencies in timbre and volume and sometimes even phrasing across the key range. The built in reverb is quite poor IMO. The sopranos do sound much better than the altos to me. There aren't enough dynamics layers and it makes for some abrupt or harsh transitions from quiet to almost shouting. On some notes this transition is smoother than others, which again goes back to the initial comment about inconsistencies. The staccato sequencer seemed really cool to me, but it does not play on beat. You will have to go in and manually adjust each note you place in your DAW's sequencer to match the actual tempo of your project. It really only sounds good to me in the lowest possible dynamic range, as soon as you start to crossfade into higher dynamic territory, it starts to sound thin, harsh, synthetic and just not smooth enough. The legato slides only trigger within one octave of one another. The kontakt factory library, although very simple, sounds infinitely better to my ears. Yes, the product is cheap, but I've owned it for over a year and used it only on TWO tracks, which I later replaced Aurora completely with a better sounding library. There are such better options available which cover much more ground, IMO it's absolutely worth saving up just a bit more and investing in something that you'll use for a long time and not have buyers regret like me and many others. Of course, this is completely subjective :) I have just done a short demo and comparison since quite a few people are wondering exactly why people dislike it.

Wow -- that was a great explanation! Thanks!

I know what you mean about the sound of the higher dynamic layer -- I was listening to the only other walkthrough I could find last night and trying to decide if that was "technically wrong but cool in a freaky cheap horror movie way," or just bad-bad. Still haven't decided, but given the consistency issues and abrupt crossfading, seems like it's not worth it.

(And I agree that the built-in KFL choir is very nice!)

Thanks again!

Ok so... VSTbuzz gave me a refund on this product that I bought in July 2017, over a year ago. I just gotta give a shout out to them for that, incredible. It was never my intention whatsoever to get a refund. I never asked for anything, they saw the vid and reached out to me. That kind of customer service is unheard of IMO. VST BUZZ ROCKS

in reality, that review almost convinced me to buy the library... the p layer is nice and the difference in volume between p and f is to be expected imo, they are called piano and forte for a reason. As for not being on beat, I think that anytime there's a script running you will have some kind of latency, as clearly demonstrated by the other library example played soon after.

I know they're called that for a reason, however I feel the crossfading was very poor and unrealistic. And what do you mean clearly demonstrated by the other library? Oceania was much, much better than Aurora for the shorts, I use it all the time with no problems whatsoever in syncing. You can hear it when I play both together (I play just Oceania, then I unmute Aurora, you can hear both, maybe you are thinking that was just Oceania?). I also know many, many libs that don't have that kind of latency. That's why I really try to compare it with others. I knew a lot of friends from FB asking for thoughts on it, and I knew they owned way better choirs, and it would just be a waste of money. Either way, my impressions were just that, if they can be helpful at all, whether it ends in someone deciding to buy OR to pass, I've done my part!

Agreed.. but I hear the lagging in Oceania as well, that’s what I meant. No offence intended... true, the choir would need an mf in between layer to have a smoother xfade

Yes I just didn’t know if you thought the clip of them playing together was just Oceania. No offense taken whatsoever I’m always glad my demo/vid can help others learn and make decisions on which libs to spend their hard earned cash on :)
