Locations for enchancing your creativity

Not sure this is right forum area, but moderator may move it if its not suitable here.

Some of us who dont compose music by merely making a ”cue” - like youd be making a sandwich - but have moments of creativity and compose at those moments may know by experience, this creativity can be enchanced by different methods. It can be enchanced by something emotional, say love, death, as well as by some cities or natural areas. Some people may even use some drug.

Now this thread would be about suggestions for those locations where you can enchance your creativity.

Heres my suggestion. I have several suggestions indeed, but to cut it short, heres the first.

Hanoi, Vietnam. Completely chaotic city, that has not sold its soul to modernization - at least yet. Long traditions of art and artistry. Deep culture behind the veil of wars. People to easily communicate with. People to fall in love with. Coffee shops to fall in love with. Nature stone throw away. Litterature, artistry, and interesting musical traditions, both local and in ethnic cultures.

Winter in Hanoi. Two months. Bring your gear. Two months visa easily arranged. One month paid monthly, stay cheap in basic hotels. First month, engage in throwing off your Western yoke. Second month start composing. Laptop, headphones. Christian Henson videos has excellent suggestions for portable studio.

Hanoi will bring out a beautiful melody.

What is Your suggestion for a location that will bring out an unique creative melody?

Waiting at the dentists. I'm not being flippant, it's just that half the time when these things come to me I'll be doing something mundane like loading the dishwasher or mowing the lawn. I'd love for inspiration to strike everytime I take in the magnificence of the Yorkshire Dales or go diving in the Maldives but it doesn't really work that way for me.

Its cool. I need an experience of some kind to strike a tune, like you eat something and make a bowel movement. There can be years without composing THAT melodoy too, it just wont come out. Would that be constipation maybe. Similar to some authors, you dont necessarily write a great book due to the dentist, but yes, some do. Good for ya.

Going to try Cairo next, yea, while I was confused why Sonokinetic was making so many islamic libraries before, now they will have a customer soon. These will come handy. Allahu Akbar.

I've always wanted to go to Cairo to see the pyramids and never got around to it. I can imagine getting the chance to listen to their folk music first hand would be very inspirational - that is if it hasn't been eroded by the insidious vines of K-pop. lol.

Going on expensive travels to gain inspiration is too snobby for me. I prefer foggy autumn mornings, walks in the countryside, cleaning up the house.

Not necessarily expensive, depends how you arrange it. I mentioned Hanoi, you could get a shabby one roomer for 7USD/day. Monthly deal even cheaper if you not afraid of a frog and a cockroach in the toilet. Staying in dormitory, some places under 5USD, but thats not recommended. Staying out of backpacker trail is also neccessary. Of course, if you want to find inspiration for a movie like ”Hostel” - Quentin Tarantino - then follow the backpacker trail. You will hate it and it will bring out the most obscure ostinato - if even that.

Do what I do, pack up the studio, buy a nice RV that can accommodate it and hit the road fulltime (toy haulers are especially good for that sans the toys). Endless inspiration with the changing landscapes. Pick the locale and environment you need on a whim. Get a Surface Pro for extreme mobile sketching. Creativity flows effortlessly when you are aren't cooped up in the same studio box day after day...
