Strikeforce Cinematic Percussion - opinion

One of my favourite Perc libraries for sure.

I love how the dynamic layers are spread across the keys because if you have a pretty bad Keyboard Controller with bad Velocity response, it leads to much more realistic sounding results. It also has dynamic layers mapped to two keys for standard two finger drumming (using velocity to trigger them).

I also love how you can just simply use Modwheel to go between Far and Close Mic Positions. I do that with HZ01 etc but have to use different faders so this is very intuitive. There are tons of options that are easy to use to make the Perc sound like you want it and layering by use of the different tunings is equally amazing for speed (especially if you set up transposition buttons on a touch screen). Basically Strikeforce and HZ01 (haven't upgraded to HZP Pro yet but definitely will) are my two favourite Perc libraries at the minute and they work wonderfully well together.

I was in the same place few months ago. Decided to go for it even though I wasn’t fully convinced based on the info available.

Initially I wasn’t happy at all w the library. BUT the developers were really great in answering all of my questions, concerns, pointing out little things in the program that made big difference. For me it requires spending more time than usual learning and playing with the library to get the results I was looking for. That’s the sign for me of a deep program and library. Give yourself time to read manual, be patient, learn and enjoy what you discover. I’m now making my own custom multis adjusting and tweaking many parameters to get killer sounds. Very happy w purchase!

How come u initially don't like it? What's the problem?

I like it. It does the JXL-style sound really well, and there' s a lot of content in the library. The sound lacks a lot of "closeness", though. Even with only the close mics on the sound can be pretty wet, and to me it misses some close punch (compared to something like HZ01 or Damage). It's also very stereo (not sure if this is actually the case, but that's what it sounds like to me), and to be honest, I really dislike the sound when I hit only one note. It can sound phasey at times, and has a lot of 400Hz that I always remove (personal opinion!). I've also had some issues with little noise/static from some of the drums, which can be brought up by compression. This is only on very few patches, though. However! The library truly blossoms when you layer it up, even just in the same patch. You can very easily create a huge sound, and the library is super fun to play around with because of how it's laid out. There's a lot of patches and different sounds to go through (which probably could be shortened down, as a couple of patches sound very similar). There's also some really cool hybrid sounds in there, which layers really well with other percussion. I don't think I have any other library that does what Strikeforce does, and it finds its way into almost everyone of my projects.

i do find lots of similiar sound when listening to the reviews and demos. Therefore, for such expensive library, i really wonder whether it's worth the price for lots of "similar sound" even though i like the sound of the library

it's a beautiful library and combines well with others. what Anders says about layering is true as well. as for percussion, you will get a lot of "similar" sound, what counts in the end is usability. and this library performs well here. hth

Mostly my problem, not diving in deep enough to learn the library. Initial thoughts (that are now changed) were doesn’t sound like videos (happens sometimes, developers know their library much more intimately), too wet (I’m used to more close mic dry sounds and then putting on my own space, I now LOVE the space and rooms they have and it works great in mixes w the type of music I do without having to add more), some sounds had phasing issue to me (like others more in playing one note, when combining notes and using multis it’s not an issue for me anymore). Hope it helps. Very versatile library for me
