Cubase Key Editor?

Never trust the living
I feel kinda dumb for asking, but I am new to Cubase, and I am curious about using the key editor. I see Daniel James use it all the time in his vids, but Im not quite sure what the purpose of it is. It looks like he just clicks on certain keys, and copies/pastes after recording a short clip and is able to write music incredibly fast this way. Could someone explain how it's being used in this context? Thanks.

Can you please post a link? Not familiar with Daniel James's videos..

This is not Daniel James videos on the subject but a good one on the fundamentals of the MIDI Key Editor. Older version of Cubase but the essentials are here and explained well.

Cubase is a deep application. It takes a while to get your head around it. Just pick topics on the application in Google and watch YouTube tutorials. It will take a while. You've picked a good meaty and essential topic to launch into.

Wait... so the Key Editor is the Piano Roll? I guess that's Cubase terminology? Sorry, not familiar with Cubase either..

Most of the time I use the score editor and the key editor / piano roll. You can see to key pitch, the detailed lenght and the volume. And you can see the starting point and change it. For example notes got to start a little bit earlier because brass needs a little bit air at the start.
You can easyly change the length. And you can move notes up and down by using the arrows keys at your keyboard. Or move the notes horizontal by pressing cmd+arrow left / arrow right.
And at the bottom you can use as much controller lanes (velocity, mod wheel, expression...) as you want.
It is a powerful tool.
